A messy kitchen can be overwhelming in itself, but it can also affect other routines in our life - like meal planning or even our morning routine. When a messy kitchen starts getting in the way of our lives, we need to look at some habit shifts. Today I have five habits to help you keep your kitchen clean! If doing all five feels overwhelming, simply start by focusing on one. Then once you are comfortable with it, add another and continue moving your way through. Over time, you will have implemented the habits you need to maintain a clean kitchen that no longer needs to stress you out.

My husband and I recently went on a vacation to the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. We started in Oregon and worked our way up to the North Cascades area in Washington. Our goal was to go on a number of hikes and during our first hike, my husband introduced me to something called “secondary fun”....it sounds odd to be combining my hiking story and organizing our life with routines, but it DOES make sense and I think you are really going to want to hear this.

Have you thought about a budget routine and wondered whether it would be helpful or more stressful?

In our first years of marriage, my husband and I had been introduced to budgeting and had several people in our lives following Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps program to get out of debt. I always rejected the idea thinking that we didn’t have enough money to budget, it would be too restrictive, and it would cause more stress trying to keep it organized. And my husband felt the same way. We avoided it until our finances had become so stressful that my husband came to me one day, after years and years of struggling, and said, “I think we need to try it.” And for some reason, all my worries went away and I agreed to try.

We started budgeting in March 2018, very much in debt, but ready to dig ourselves out and try to grab hold of that financial freedom we were hearing about. We have learned a lot in the last seven years of budgeting and I want to share four reasons why I would recommend that everyone has a budget routine.
