The buzz team is back with “What’s the buzz?” (but this time in podcast edition)! “What’s the buzz?” was originally a radio show that aired weekly on WPGU 107.1, but coronavirus has made that, unfortunately, not possible to continue. That isn’t stopping buzz, though! The “What’s the buzz?” team, consisting of Ava, Becca, Carolina, Jill, Liam, and Casey, is back with weekly content about everything from new music and TV to how everyone is dealing with quarantine. If you’re new to “What’s the buzz?” every week the “What’s the buzz?” team discusses new, interesting topics that relate to both national happenings and Champaign-Urbana happenings. A few of last semester’s talking points included: a summer music recap, a review of Pygmalion music festival, campus bucket list picks and a recap of David Dobrik’s visit to UIUC. Every week they also create playlists with songs that relate to a certain theme that they decide on for the week. Some of the themes from last semester included: all-time favorite songs, songs with the best lyrics and childhood songs. Last night we had our third show of the season where we shared a stacked playlist full of our favorite rainy day songs. First, we had moment of silence for the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsberg, or RBG, former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. We talked about the impact she had on us and how we hope others will continue her legacy. Next, we recapped the Emmy's that took place this Sunday, and we expressed our undying love for Schitt's Creek and Zendaya. Next, we had a great discussion about mental health, its importance and some of the ways we deal with stress and anxiety. Lastly, we talked about the "celebrity writing books" trend that many influencers and celebrities have jumped on. Last night was our second show of the season where shared some of our favorite fall songs in preparation for fall next week. We also talked about the the devastating wildfires spreading throughout California. This also led into a discussion of a gender reveal party in California that also resulted in a huge fire. We also stressed the importance of voting in the upcoming presidential election and shared some tips for first-time voters. We then dug into the ways COVID-19 has been affecting the fashion industry and specifically what we've been wearing over the past few months. Then, we discussed the People Over Profit protest that took place this week on the quad that demanded a 30% refund as well as other demands regarding the University and COVID-19. Lastly, we previewed buzz's upcoming Dining Guide, which will come out next week. We had our very first radio show of the semester on WPGU 107.1 last night, and we talked about all things COVID-19, including how we're dealing with the online transition and some of the things we've noticed about the party scene. In this bittersweet episode of "What's the buzz?" the buzz team says goodbye to Liam as he finishes his time with buzz and ventures out into the adult world. We want to thank Liam for his work on the show, and we will miss his humor, hot takes and upbeat personality. We know he will do incredible things outside of buzz, and we cannot wait to see what he achieves.
